Hi Singapore SSEAYP leaders!
My name is Victor, from NTU (Singapore) and graduating this year. I would dearly love to join the SSEAYP programme, and while having fun, I also would like to contribute what I can in future after "graduation" from the sea experience.
However, I actually would miss most of the training orientation programme that is mandatory and pre-requisite by NYC as I probably would be in Vietnam from 5 Jul - 2 Aug as I would probably be involved in my school "Summer in Vietnam" programme.
As I am REALLY PASSIONATE to join this programme, can anyone (from Singapore esp) help me "fight" my case to NYC?..?:P Thanks!
Cheers
Victor
Hi Victor,
Wow... "Summer in Vietnam" sounds like a great programme... But missing a month away from the mandatory training is rather hard to argue for your case. U see, the 2-month-training period is not just for the contigent to get acquainted with each other but to work on various preparations for the SSEAYP. This will involve sourcing for publicity & sponsorship, training for cultural practice, logistics matters, uniform tailoring and geogaphical&language knowledge. From experience, it is rather intensive and crash-course in ASEAN, Japan and Singapore...
Thus, you see why NYC is quite adamant about the 2 months training. It makes a big difference to the team dynamic of the contigent plus it will be unfair to the rest of contingent when you'll be away for a month.
But here's what we would suggest, the ship for the SSEAYP will be docking in Singapore this year... We would love to invite you to be part of us to help us with the organising of events or even involve as a host family for the local programme.
Thus, you can still be part of us this year and then sign up for SSEAYP 2011!We really hope that you will consider this alternative if u are heading Vietnam in Jul.
